Why the City of Ljubljana joined the AFE-INNOVNET Network?
In the City of Ljubljana (the capital City of Slovenia) we strive daily to improve our citizens’ quality of life. Among others we give special care and attention to the elderly. So, we regularly carry out all legislative activities for the elderly (e.g. (supplementary) payments for institutional care, provision of family assistance at home and subsidization of this service, provision of primary health care) and also extensive support and through public tenders co-finance many other activities, programs and projects, which are carried out by non-governmental organizations and public institutes (e.g. support and assistance for the more independent life, various forms of education, daily activity centres for elderly, self-help groups).
We joined the WHO Healthy Cities Network in 1989 and WHO Global Network of Age-friendly cities in early 2011 and are a member of the Sub-Network on Healthy Ageing. The city's commitment on creating age friendly environments is included in all city policies and strategies and in 2013 the City council of Ljubljana adopted an Action plan “Age friendly Ljubljana for the period from 2013 to 2015”.
We have joined the AFE-INNOVNET because we want to share and exchange our good ‘age friendly’ practices with other partners, to learn how other partners create age friendly environments and to get new ideas for our future works.
