The ALFRED project is supported by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union under grant agreement 611218 (FP7-ICT-2013 5.1).

ALFRED will realize a virtual mobile, personalized Butler for elderly people helping them to stay independent, to coordinate with carers and to foster the active participation in society. This assistant will be realized as a mobile device running on day-to-day Android smartphones allowing a wide impact of the project results. ALFRED will be fully voice-controlled and combine latest scientific research results from mobile development, data management, context aware services, speech recognition and personal data management, combined with activities from behavioural and social science. ALFRED is developed in cooperation among 5 European countries (Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, France and Spain) and involving SMEs, universities, research institute and end-user organisations. The project started in October 2013 and runs fro three years.

The demographic change leads to new challenges for Europe as a society and also to strong pressure for cost optimization and more effective care. As a result, efficient ways to improve care processes are needed as well as new approaches for empowering people with age related dependencies or disabilities to live independently for longer. In an optimal society, elderly people will be able to live at their own homes with the possibility to act independently and to actively participate in society. The ALFRED solution will contribute to this goal by providing a personal and interactive assistant for elderly people. ALFRED will foster independent living and active ageing, integrating interactive services for elderly people and for care-takers.

Our aim is to the acquuire users (older adults using mobilde devices) around the Europe. Purchasing ALFRED is made simple: an App in a App marketplace. With the iterative testing process throughout the system development we make sure that the service corresponds to the users' needs and is user-friendly.
