The concept and the charter of dementia friendly community is develop by the LIGUE ALZHEIMER ASBL. By being a Dementia Friendly City, the signatory city aims to commit itself to encourage the inclusion of people with dementia and their relatives within their community. Each activity must contribute to an improvement of the quality of life of people with dementia and their relatives and/or carers. This Charter is available to all local authorities and to the ‘Provinces’.It is based on five sections: o Sensitization o The ‘right to be different’ o Information and orientation services for people with dementia and their relatives o Actions and activities within the city o Consultation Change also requires the acquisition of a ‘know-how’ ; this is the reason why la ‘Ligue Alzheimer’ offers training sessions (e.g. Agent Proxidem) and documents (e.g. Plan d’Action pour une « Ville Amie Démence ») aiming to ease the implication of all citizens to reach this change. The goal is to find a solution together: health professionals, people with dementia, relatives, volunteers, general public. These solutions get materialized in different activities: o The ‘Alzheimer Cafés’ o The ‘Fighters’ o The ‘guest homes’ o The ‘Circles of Care’ o The touring Conferences cycle o The ‘Auxiliaires de vie’ (life assistants) o The work between different generations o The artistic animations
