September will be a busy month for AFE-INNOVNET network. Our third webinar, focusing on “Age-Friendly Environments Meet Business: Perfect Match?”, will take place on 22 September, 11.00 CET. You may already register here. The same day, we will also organise a roundtable at the EU Marketplace for eHealth & EIP on Active and Healthy Ageing organized as part of the Growing the Silver Economy in Europe. We will then finalise our second workshop to take place on 2-3 October in Flanders around the issue of dementia-friendly communities and contribute to the development of the WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities revised guide for the EU. The European Commission opens a public consultation on the EU Urban Agenda

 

On 18 July, the European Commission opened a public consultation on "The urban dimension of EU policies – key features of an EU Urban Agenda". The purpose of this consultation is to gather ideas and further clarifying the need for an EU urban agenda. The consultation is open till 26 September 2014.

WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities: Publication of a French Guide on Age-Friendly Cities
 

Born during the Dublin Conference on Age-Friendly Cities in 2011, the idea of creating a French-speaking Network of Age-Friendly Cities, gathering cities in France, Belgium, Quebec and Switzerland, has been concretised in 2013 as an affiliate programme to the GNAFCC. They have just published a French Guide on Age-Friendly Cities.

In June 2014, the European Commission took a further step towards illustrating the socio-economic value of social businesses by publishing a new standard to better measure and demonstrate the social impact of social enterprises.

The SOPHIE (Structural Policies for Health Inequalities Evaluation) project published first results, showing a clear link between Interventions on the urban environment and inhabitants’ health and well-being. This has been shown in Barcelona, Spain, following the entry into force of the Neighbourhoods Law.
