We are happy to see AFE INNOVNET network continue growing, reaching almost 100 members after 5 months. This is for us a great step in our efforts to mobilise a wide range of stakeholders interested in creating age-friendly environments across in the EU! Last weeks have been busy for the Network with a successful webinar held on “The Crisis: an opportunity to become Age-Friendly” (read the report here), and the first workshop organised in Dundalk, Ireland, which showcased various age-friendly strategies across Europe (read the report here). The third webinar on Silver economy will take place on 22 September. You may already register here!

French government releases draft legislation on adapting the society to ageing
 

On 3 June, the French government published a draft legislation aimed at adapting society to the ageing of the population. Articulated around three key pillars – anticipating, adapting and accompanying, it aims at addressing challenges posed by ageing today and preparing the future of French ageing generations.

Slovenia: Action plan “Age friendly Ljubljana for the period from 2013 to 2015”

New contribution on ICT solutions for older adults in age-friendly environments
 

Ljubljana joined the WHO Global Network of Age-friendly cities early 2011, and in March 2013 the City council of Ljubljana adopted an Action plan called “Age friendly Ljubljana for the period from 2013 to 2015”. It includes 98 measures to improve older persons’ quality of life via e.g. cultural events, physical activities, better housing and healthcare services.

Poland: launch of Senioralia, the first Festival for Seniors
 

On the 14th and 15th June took place in Krakow the first national Festival for Seniors. The main aims of this Festival were to improve seniors’ participation, shape a positive image of older people as well as to disseminate interesting and valuable initiatives related to the place of older people in the society.

Why we joined

The Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities (Vereniging van Vlaamse Steden en Gemeenten, VVSG) is the representative member organisation of all (308!) Flemish municipalities, of the public centres for social welfare (Openbare Centra voor Maatschappelijk Welzijn, OCMWs, the administratively autonomous social services) and of about fifty inter-municipal companies. It represents the interests of both local elected politicians and municipal employees. Read more here.

In the frame of the DAA project, eight European cities have tested service design methods to improve the quality of life of their older citizens, tackling challenges linked to e.g. isolation, technology acceptance, Alzheimer’s disease or urban planning.
