May has been a busy month at EU level with the European elections. A new Parliament is expected to start working in the coming weeks, followed by a new Commission in November. We hope our new European leaders will commit to make Europe age-friendly and support our call for an EU Covenant on Demographic Change. European Access City Award: 5th Edition now launched
 

The European Commission has opened the competition for the fifth 'Access City Award 2015', the European Award for Accessible Cities. The annual prize recognises and celebrates cities for their efforts to make it easier for the people with disabilities and older people to gain access to public areas such as housing, children’s play areas, public transport or communication technologies.

Under the slogan "Give health an e-Chance", the 2014 eHealth Forum, organised by the Greek Presidency in cooperation with the European Commission, gathered nearly 13.000 visitors in Athens from 12-14 May to discuss the contribution of new technology and innovation to promote healthy and independent living.

New contribution on ICT solutions for older adults in age-friendly environments
 

As part of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA), a new report was released in May, which examines the state of the art of the use of new technologies (ICT) to promote age-friendly environments and better identify older people's needs.

On the 26th of May, the European Commission published the Annual work plan 2014 of the European Health Programme. Calls for projects and operating grants are open until the 25th of September to all organisations active in the field of public health in Europe.

The world we are living in today is increasingly open, complex and inter-dependent, and therefore more fragile. Many people face social distress due to world economic crisis. Our intergenerational centre aims to create a friendly environment for elderly in our region thanks to collaborations with different local and regional organisations. Read more here.

“Go back in the time”, A Reminiscence Promenade in Belgium
 

Several projects are going on in Belgium to create dementia-friendly environments. Aalbeke, in Flanders has recently launched a Reminiscence Promenade for all its citizens, including those suffering from dementia.
